Jacks Butter is operated by The Better Products Company ("we," "us," "our") based in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use jacksbutter.ca, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights you have over it. It's written to comply with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws.
What we collect
We collect only the personal information we need to run the business and fulfill your order. That typically includes:
- Contact info — your name, email address, and phone number (phone optional)
- Shipping info — the mailing address where your order should be sent
- Order history — records of drops you've joined, orders you've placed, and related correspondence
- Payment info — processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card details
- Technical info — standard web analytics (IP address, device type, pages viewed) collected by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to help us improve the site
- Marketing preferences — whether you've opted in to drop notifications, and how you interact with our emails
Why we collect it
- To process orders and deliver product
- To contact you about your order, drops, or support requests
- To send you marketing emails about upcoming drops (only if you opted in — you can unsubscribe anytime)
- To improve the product, site, and customer experience
- To comply with legal, tax, and food-safety obligations
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. Ever. We share it only with trusted service providers who help us run the business, and only to the extent they need it to do their job:
- Stripe — payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy
- Shippo — shipping label generation and tracking. Shippo's privacy policy
- Supabase — our customer database. Supabase's privacy policy
- Klaviyo — email marketing (only if you've opted in). Klaviyo's privacy policy
- Resend — transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates). Resend's privacy policy
- Vercel — site hosting. Vercel's privacy policy
- Google Analytics & Microsoft Clarity — aggregated site analytics
- Meta (Facebook/Instagram) — conversion tracking via Meta Pixel, where applicable
We may also disclose personal information when required by law, court order, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Where your data lives
Some of our service providers are based in the United States or other countries. By using our site, you acknowledge that your personal information may be stored or processed outside Canada, including in jurisdictions with different privacy protections than your own. All service providers we use maintain industry-standard security practices.
How long we keep it
We keep your personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or as required by law. Order records are typically retained for seven years for tax and accounting purposes. Marketing preferences are kept until you unsubscribe. Website analytics data is retained based on each analytics provider's default retention settings.
How we protect it
- Payment information is transmitted directly to Stripe over TLS encryption; it never reaches our servers
- Our database is hosted by Supabase with encryption at rest and in transit
- Access to customer data is limited to team members who need it to do their job
- We use multi-factor authentication on all administrative accounts
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever learn of a breach that affects your information, we will notify you and the appropriate privacy authorities as required by law.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that's inaccurate or incomplete
- Withdraw consent to marketing communications at any time (every marketing email has an unsubscribe link)
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe we've mishandled your information
To exercise any of these rights, email jack@jacksbutter.ca. We respond within 30 days.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, measure site usage, and — where you've opted in — deliver relevant marketing. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit some site functionality.
Children's privacy
Our products are not intended for purchase by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. If the changes are material, we'll notify you by email if you're on our list.
